RANEPA Summer Campus teams defend their final projects (VIDEO)
On July 22, the 12 teams of the 8th International Summer Campus of the Presidential Academy presented the projects they have been working on for almost two weeks, using the knowledge shared by the numerous speakers.
The competent jury that evaluated the presentations included Director of the Summer Campus, Deputy Director of RANEPA Institute of Industrial Management (IIM) Natalya Demidova; entrepreneur Yefim Kolodkin; Director of the Analytic Centre for the CIS at EY Alexei Rybnikov; Head of RANEPA Press Service Dmitry Sokolov; as well as all the six tutors: Bjorn Stenvers, Dragos Dorobat, Oana Contoman, Kamil Kuramshin, Quinten Peelen and Etien Yanev.
“Keep together for the better” was the slogan team No. 12, Sticky Stickers, used for the presentation of their project that addressed the problem of shortage of space at urban cemeteries, which are environmentally unhealthy. The goal of the project was to create an innovative virtual reality-based memorial place in Moscow. The participants studied a BBC report that said almost half of the cemeteries in England can run out of space over the next 20 years. The students proposed a “smart cemetery” project, where people would be able to pay tribute to their deceased relatives in a different way – having an individual memorial that holds memories with the help of audio and video in virtual reality. The plan is to use environmentally friendly burial methods, which will create a natural place in the city and save space.
The team Fantastic Four presented their idea, Greenfix, aimed at plastic processing. Plastic is a serious and widespread problem in the modern world. The students developed an app that would motivate people to put plastic waste in special bins. They applied gamification tools, turning the plastic recycling process into a kind of competition. The app records information and awards bonuses. The project should bring together people who are not indifferent to environmental problems.
Chak-Chak developed an app to connect all Summer Campus participants, not only those from the previous years, but also future ones, into a close-knit community. Students and their professors from all over the world participate in the Summer Campus: the users will be able to find potential colleagues, investors, employees and co-founders for start-ups through the app. The uniqueness of the app enables the user to find the right people – by filtering the search results by country, by interests, etc. The app is designed to help users start international projects, organize business meetings and much more.
The Power team presented a draft app, Freal Health, which suggests medicines and vitamins based on the user’s symptoms. Once you feel unwell, download the app and create an account. Select your symptoms, and the app will select the medications that can help. The drugs can be immediately ordered through the app, and will soon be delivered by a courier.
Big Bang’s project aims to improve rural infrastructure. The students want to attract large agricultural companies to villages, which have almost disappeared because people move to cities. The project includes repairing village schools and supplying the equipment they need. One of the ideas is to organize school lunches made from environmentally friendly products that the pupils’ parents grow on farms. The project also provides for the construction of hospitals. This way villages will be revived, unemployment will be reduced, and large agribusinesses will be provided with workforce.
Link's project is to produce smart garbage cans to collect glass bottles. The students developed a mobile app for communicating with their partners – the team selected as their main partner a chain of German discounter supermarkets. The cans will collect glass bottles, as well as water, which will be used to water the flower beds next to the cans. They will also generate electricity with solar panels on their lids.
The Together team developed a mobile app – a social networking platform linking people with disabilities and volunteers. The app can group people by the type of their problem and by location. It will help people with disabilities achieve self-realization in creative activities, and volunteers will find a place to practice.
One of the most unusual projects was proposed by Jumping Wizardz. The students proposed raising awareness of developing countries’ problems by producing sweets with “the taste of the problem” of a particular country. For the team itself, it is a social project, not a business idea. The students expect companies that recruit volunteers to order such sweets to give them to the volunteers “to taste the problem,” increasing their interest and personal involvement in the project.
The Flexers team presented the Necowall project aimed at addressing the environment-related objectives as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The students are very interested and excited about climate change. After conducting an in-depth analysis and examining the environmental performance index, the students identified three key problems: water, air pollution and deforestation. The team proposed the design of a special Necowall wallboard that would filter and purify the air like real trees. The team not only made a 3D model of their product, but also presented a physical prototype to the jury.
The Fighting Babies team is also concerned about the environmental situation on Earth. Their idea is to teach people about responsible approach to the natural environment since childhood. The students proposed developing a series of educational cartoons, which would sow the seed of responsibility in the new generation. The team showed the jury and their colleagues a pilot episode of the cartoon about Professor Aziz from the future. The team decided to use Youtube as the initial platform for their project targeting children aged 3 to 11.
WOW focused on SDG 2 – to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition. Their project, Eat, involves the collection of food leftovers, their sterilization, processing and transformation into a complex food. The students plan to distribute their goods through chain stores and send them to charity. The ingredients will come from farms, companies and supermarkets, as well as from bakeries and restaurants. The team has developed a quality control and transportation system for its product, and shot a small promotional video. The students offered their product to the jury to taste, and the members liked it.
The last project was presented by the High Five team. Their work addressed SDG3 – good health and well-being. The team’s invention, Sprig, is a vegetable patch to be installed at home. The students intend to develop their own eco-brand. They developed a mobile app for their product, which comes in three configurations: basic, economy and maximum.
The jury listened carefully and with great interest to all the presentations. Some of them have the potential to be implemented, according to the jury members. The teams that proposed the best projects will be awarded on the final day of the Summer Campus.
The International Summer Campus of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) is a unique annual educational project for best students of Russian and foreign universities.
