Igor Shuvalov visits RANEPA Summer Campus
On July 25 the first Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov had a meeting with the participants of the international educational forum “Summer Campus of the Presidential Academy” – the best students from the regions of Russia and foreign higher education institutions. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Rector of the RANEPA Vladimir Mau were also present at the meeting.
Igor Shuvalov encouraged the students to communicate openly and answered every question that was asked. At the beginning of his speech the First Vice-Premier noted how important interdisciplinary education is and underlined that it is necessary to thoroughly study the Russian literature of the 19th century. “Life is getting significantly more complicated that is why there is a need for the disciplines that broaden one’s outlook.”
Vladimir Mau informed that this year the Academy launches an experimental program “Public and Municipal Administration” that will be based on the three disciplines: Mathematics, History and two foreign languages.
According to the Vice-Premier, it is not enough for the modern Russian education to be of a great quality, it has to be world class. “We need to cut higher education institutions in number and, quite possibly, reformat them in order to make sure the funding is efficient,” Igor Shuvalov specified. He thinks that general school education should be free.
Speaking of the professions that will be in demand in the next 5-10 years, Igor Shuvalov noted that regardless of specialization the quality of the expertise is a defining factor in whether there will be a demand for particular specialist. The speaker stated that a public officer has to be aware of the society’s pressing issues and constantly improve in terms of proficiency.
Igor Shuvalov views the gas contract between Russia and China as a success. The global energy map is changing, that is why it is unacceptable to fully rely on these incomes while planning federal expenditures, but using them is necessary,” Igor Shuvalov pronounced. The First Vice-Premier thinks that Russia is not merely a raw material producing country, but an industrial country as well. “Supplying raw materials is important for us as much as for the energy-dependent countries,” he noted.
In conclusion, Igor Shuvalov addressed the students by saying that studying is the most complicated kind of work; however, it brings a joy from adding to your bundle of knowledge. He also underlined the social function of knowledge transfer and the significance of the “Summer Campus” format.
The forum “Summer Campus of the Presidential Academy: Education of the Future”, which is an important event in the field of education, currently takes place near the city of Kazan. The event is for the third time organized by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), Republic of Tatarstan and the ACIG Group of Companies. Within the framework of the Forum, lectures and workshops are held for participating students by leading experts of the government institutions, business and science spheres. Based on the knowledge obtained under the guidance of the tutors the six student teams will prepare their projects of the “University-2040” that will reflect the structure of the institution, the content and format of education of the future. The winner will be chosen by the participants themselves after the project presentation. The best “University-2040” project will be then used for further research. The Forum for 250 students from the 21 regions of Russia and abroad will come to a close at July 27.
