Students of Summer Campus get acquainted with Tatarstan culture
The excursion route started at the Kazan Arena versatile stadium that had been built in a record low time and became a platform for conducting the opening and closing ceremonies of the Summer Universiade 2013. It is the safest stadium in the world that is included in the list of arenas that will host the World Football Championship 2018.
The students then visited the Water Sports Palace, the first in the world in terms of equipment and operating capabilities. The building is not only intended for training and competing in water sports, it can also be used as a versatile sports complex. The Palace was the most significant venue during the Universiade 2013, and by 2015 it will become a competitive arena for the World Water Sports Championship.
The participants of the Campus were also very interested in visiting the rowing canal that was also constructed before the Kazan Universiade. Rowing athletes may use a specially equipped pool for their training sessions.
During the first part of the excursion the students enjoyed the architecture of the famous Kazan Kremlin – its historical and archaeological memorials. The centuries-long history of the Kremlin can be traced through its buildings: the Suyumbike Tower, Cul-Shariff Mosque, Blagoveshchensky Cathedral, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery and the Junker School.
During the second part of the excursion program the participants of the Forum headed to one of the most popular tourist objects of Tatarstan – the unique Sviyazhsk Island Town. The settlement, founded in the middle of 16th century is a memorial of the Russian antiquity with a rich history behind it. The Sviyazhsk complex of landmarks of global significance comprises such heritage objects as the Sviyazhsk Bogoroditse-Uspensky Monastery, Sviyazhsk Ioanno-Predtechensky Monastery, Troitsk-Sergievsky Monastery (which is currently inactive), Makaryevsk Hermitage Monastery that is located in the Sviyazhsk natural reserve. The territory of the Island Town has been a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998. The students participating in the Campus were amazed by the painterly nature of the Island and the sight from the Vysokaya Gora hill, where the city of Sviyazhsk is located.
The visit of the well-known fitness expert, specialist of the National Olympic Team of the Russian Federation Anna Milyaeva to the Kazan Ski Resort was a pleasant surprise for the students. The expert held an entertaining workshop and spoke of the role of sport in education of the future. The participants discussed the immediate influence of sport on personality establishment and development, how it affects every specialist in every sphere. The students had the opportunity to ask Anna Milyaeva questions, discuss the topics of interest.
After that, the Forum participants divided in six teams continued working on their projects of “University 2040” under the guidance of their tutors. The last event of the day was the fabulous Dance Battle, where students could fully demonstrate their talent and skill of impersonation.
