Number of IT specialists to be doubled
According to the Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov, IT industry growth rates should be higher than the country’s GDP growth rates.
Development of IT and Internet access creates prerequisite condition for economic growth, Nikolai Nikiforov believes.
On Monday, July 22, the Minister held a speech at the Summer Campus of the Presidential Academy which opened in Tatarstan.
"A 10% Internet penetration creates prerequisites for economic growth by 1.5%", Mr Nikiforov said adding that growth rates of the IT industry should be higher than the country’s GDP growth rates.
According to the Minister, the number of IT specialists should be doubled. To this end, he emphasized that Runet opens wide opportunities for youth startups, ITAR-TASS informs.
Mr Nikiforov noted that a special target program for IT development till 2018 had been adopted in Russia. According to this program, by that time 70% of the country’s population should have access to electronic public services.
"Information technologies are the main driver of this reform", the Minister said.
Besides, he reminded that by 2015 the Single Window Project should be implemented by 90%. Minister of Communications and Mass Media also pointed to the need to eliminate digital inequality, extend LTE penetration and provide all Russia’s transportation hubs with high-quality connection.
The Summer Campus opened on June 18 near Kazan organized by the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration together with the Government of the Republic and will last till July 28. Sergei Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, is the Academic Advisor and Member of the Supervisory Board of the Campus.
